edoocoo

BACKGROUND

edoocoo is a startup looking to unite the fragmented global education community.

Bespoke networks are more efficient, as they are driven by relevant content. Collaboration is crucial to make the network engaging, innovative and rewarding. Without sharing of information and resources, any network would simply die. edoocoo wants to be the central hub for all things educational.

CHALLENGE
The main challenge can be defined as:
Produce a brand and all associated assets.
Create a clear and concise marketing website.
Create a prototype for a community App for Desktop and Mobile
RESEARCH
Research was undertaken to evaluate the possible open source networking solutions that could be utilised for the project to create a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to quickly assess the viability of the business proposition. The functionality of these sites was documented and the ability to amend to the specifications that may be required.
USER INTERVIEWS
Educational user groups were organised with staff at a few schools, to initially identify how existing educators communicated, what they saw as problem points of this communication (if any) and how the specifications of the new platform would be able to solve this problem. Questions were also asked to how other social networks made them feel, and insights to see if they thought there was a need for a bespoke educational network.

The target users would be people involved in the education sector, who would want to discuss educational matters. I created various user scenarios to highlight the possible interactions with the community.
Scenario 1:   User signs up to the community to find some information / be part of the community.
Scenario 2:   User is invited by a colleague to join a circle to contribute to a discussion.
Scenario 3:   User joins and creates their own circle to discuss a topic.
Scenario 4:   User adds a post to an existing circle.
Scenario 5:   User uploads a file to a post / circle.
These scenarios helped us to establish a rough scope for the work modules we needed to create. This allowed us to be very specific when we were looking at the UX on one particular module of the app, but have the vision to understand that the module would need to dovetail into other modules to build up the app.

I also spoke with some teachers and asked how the communicated online with other teachers. The main response was via Facebook, but the lack of privacy was a real problem for them, as they were worried any comments they made would get into the broader spectrum of the site.
